Beakons (Great Beak or GreatBeak in earlier translations, Giant beak in Japan) are bird-like monsters with long spindly legs and no wings, introduced in Dragon Quest III. In Dragon Quest IX, they can attack twice per turn.

Etymology
Pun on "beak" and "beacon".
Its Japanese name, ōkuchibashi, literally means "large beak" or "giant beak"
