The spangled dress is a recurring piece of clothing in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest VII. It is a fashionable dress designed for women and provides a high amount of protection.

Characteristics

The dress is a sleeveless ankle-length evening gown made out of a shimmery dark indigo material that gives it its name. It has high leg slits on both sides and is decorated with a fur collar at the top. Although it possesses no special features, it often has a high defence and style bonus for wearers.

Appearances

Dragon Quest IV

The spangled dress has a defence bonus of +40. It can only be worn by Alena, Maya, and Meena. It may be purchased at the Endor Casino for 2,000 tokens. It only appears in the remakes.

Dragon Quest VI

Appearing exclusively in smartphone versions of the game, the spangled dress has a defence bonus of +40, a style bonus of +60, and could only be equipped by Milly and Ashlynn. It was a limited-time item that could be obtained by redeeming a special gift code from the Dragon Quest Portal app that was exclusive for Japanese players and was only available from September 1st, 2015 to September 30th, 2015.

Dragon Quest VII

The spangled dress has a defence bonus of +50 and a style bonus of +52. If equipped with the solar fan, it provides a +45 style bonus when being ranked for the Style category of the Excellence Grading Organisation. It can only be worn by Maribel and Aishe. Spangled dresses can be purchased at the Grand Slum Immigrant Town for 11,500 gold and sold for 5,750 gold. A spangled dress can be won for winning the Best Dressed Award for women in El Ciclo in the present. Spangled dresses can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino starting from Pilgrim's Rest in the present.

Dragon Quest VIII

The spangled dress has a defence bonus of +46. It can only be worn by Jessica, as well as Red in the Nintendo 3DS version. Spangled dresses can be purchased for 3,000 tokens at the Baccarat Casino and sold for 2,350 gold. One can also be found in Cash and Carrie's house in Baccarat after the events at Marta's Cottage. The spangled dress can also be upgraded into a shimmering dress in the Alchemy Pot by combining it with a gold bracer and a ruby of protection.

• In the 3DS version, the spangled dress can also be used to make the nitid tutu with the use of Alchemy by combining it with a dancer's costume and a life bracer.
