Heartless hunter
Heartless hunters are modified Killing machines designed to function equally well as solo combatants when in a deployment. The gaudy paint job is an intentional deterrent that keeps enemies from getting too close.

A single heartless hunter is fist encountered in The Forgotten Factory section of the The Paternoggin, just south east of Snouterhorn Station. It attacks Erik and Mia upon reactivating, serving as the first boss battle of the game and is meant to teach new players the importance of ranged combat with the Catapult.
Much later into the game, the player will have the option to reboot and recruit one of these mechs. The first step in doing so is speaking to the Soggy hand hanging out by the bonfire at Sweetshade Glade Station on The Maneland. The soggy hand will state that he can repair the damaged droid, but he will need ten Brighten rocks, ten Enchanted stones, and ten Lucida shards to cover the necessary materials. Once repaired, the heartless hunter will only respond if the player is controlling Erik, and it will explain that it mistook Mia as an aggressive monster targeting the lad; introducing itself as PR0TEKTER-iK, the heartless hunter heads off to Miss Cecily's waiting room.
