The Lucida shard is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. When it was first introduced, it was an accessory that could either cause confusion to an enemy or remove confusion from a party member when used as a tool in battle. In later games, it has become a crafting material instead.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (remakes only)[edit]
The Lucida shard is an accessory with a Luck bonus of +5 that can be equipped by all characters. When used as a tool in battle, it can cure a single party member of the effects of confusion. It can only be purchased from the third stage of the Pioneer Town for 500 gold and sold for 375 gold. One can be found in a treasure chest in Diabolic Hall.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The Lucida shard has a Style bonus of +10 and attempts to confuse a single enemy when used as a tool in battle. It can only be equipped by Milly and Ashlynn. One can be found in a drawer at Madame Luca's House, and it has a 1⁄256 chance of being dropped by a Fuddleguana. The shard cannot be purchased or sold anywhere.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The Lucida shard once again has a Style bonus of +10 and can confuse a single enemy when used as a tool in battle. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe. It can be purchased for 500 gold at the item shops in Precipice Pass, as well as Al-Balad and El Ciclo in the past and it can be sold for 250 gold.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, one shard can be found in a treasure chest on the world map near the Roamer Encampment in the present.

Lucida shard has a 10% chance of being found in Rank C blue treasure chests, can be dropped rarely by Cosmic chimaeras, or received as a reward for completing Quest #61: Mager Migraine. It can be sold for 900 gold.
Lucida shards can be made in the Krak Pot and are also used in the following alchemy recipes:

Dragon Quest X[edit]
Lucida shard is used as an ingredient for crafting weapons, armour, and furniture, or in Alchemy to increase resistance against Fizzle. It can be purchased from some material shops for 270 gold each, picked up from sparkly spots, or dropped by various monsters, such as Trickstars, Cosmic chimaeras, Godsteeds, Archbashops, and Moai minstrels.

Lucida shards can be purchased from the shop at Trial Isle for 1,000 gold each in the postgame, picked up from sparkly spots in the Hekswood, the Champs Sauvage - Whale Way Station, or dropped by Cosmic chimaeras and Archbashops. One lucida shard can be found in a treasure chest on Insula Algarum. It can be sold for 250 gold each.

Lucida shards can be dropped by Cosmic chimaeras and Überkilling machines or received from King Flaminio in exchange for 8 Mini medals on the Stonecloud. It can also be received as a reward for completing Grudge Match: Bearded Beast with gold clear time from the second time onward. Lucida shards can be used in the quick recipe for the Meteorite bracer or the classic recipe for the Ace of spoils in the Alchemy Pot or sold for 850 gold each. Two lucida shards and two urns of royal soil are required to complete Quest #77: Unnatural Science.
Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]
Lucida shard is used as a material to improve various accessories or sold for 500 gold each. It can no longer be dropped by any monsters, but can be picked up from sparkly spots in the Dead Man's Land and the Frosty Foothills or received in exchange for 5 Mini medals each.
Dragon Quest Treasures[edit]
Lucida shards can be dropped by all variants of the Killing machine or sometimes received by sending a dispatch team to the Forsaken Station area of the Paternoggin. It is mainly used for crafting pellets at the Werks or for scouting monsters.
