Agate of evolution is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It is a rare stone that is used as a crafting material for creating or strengthening powerful equipment and items.

Agate of evolution is used extensively in the Krak Pot for creating the strongest weapons and armour. One can be received as a reward for completing Quest #178: From Rust to Riches. It is both expensive and time-consuming to create one, as the materials must be made through Alchemy or found in high-ranking blue treasure chests and require access to Sterling's whistle received as a reward for completing of Quest #39: Follow That Fish! in the postgame. It can be sold for 30,000 gold coins, but it is not recommended to do so due to its rarity.

Agate of evolution can be commonly dropped or stolen from Leviathings, Coralotls, Headless norsemen, Master commanders, and Hoopermen, as well as rarely dropped by Golden girls and their vicious counterparts, Crystalotls, and Umbras. In the postgame, agate of evolution can be picked up from a singular sparkly spot in the Hoarder's Keep or redeemed from the casino at Puerto Valor for 50,000 tokens each. Some agates can be found in a treasure chest at Insula Algarum*, B9 of the Battleground, Level 4 of the Fortress of Fear, the Tower of Lost Time, and at Gondolia* in the postgame. Three agates of evolution are received as a reward for completing Quest #42: A Little Bit Lantern. It can be sold for 2,000 gold.

Agate of evolution can be collected from green crystals on the Paternoggin and the Wingswept Moors or occasionally received by sending a dispatch team to the Greywing Bridge area of the Wingswept Moors, as well. It is mainly used for crafting high-end pellets at the Werks or for scouting monsters.
