Etymology[edit]
In the Japanese version of the game, the brain drainer is known as the shield of Rin'ne. Rin'ne is the Japanese translation of the concept of Saṃsāra, which exists in many eastern religions such as Buddhism. Saṃsāra is the ongoing cycle of rebirth and death that humans and other mortal beings undergo until they achieve enlightenment, which is why the shield features the Ouroboros symbol.
