The Hunter mech is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest II, it is a weaker version of the killing machine that often hints to the presence of metal slimes in the immediate area.
Characteristics[edit]
Hunter mechs are quadrupedal, one-eyed robots armed with a crossbow and sword. Their colour scheme is two tones of gray with gold and purple accents. As the less-efficient model, hunter mechs are typically the weakest of the killing machine pallet swaps and tend to lack some of their stronger qualities, such as high resistances and the ability to strike more than once per round. Metal hunters live up to their name and are only encountered in areas that also house metal slimes, tipping players off to the fact that the Experience point bonanzas are near by.
In its original appearance, the hunter mech did not have a sword and was missing a quiver to hold its crossbow bolts. This was changed in later installments.

Dragon Quest X[edit]
Hunter mechs appeared from the beginning of the game. They are able to act twice per turn, make violent slashing attacks, and can use Attack Attacker to weaken their opponents. Starting with Version 5.0 of the game, they are highly sought after as they can drop white treasure chests that can contain a Metal slime sword, Metal slime spear, or Metal wing boomerang. It is possible to change the appearance of a Killing machine monster companion to that of a Hunter mech's with a colour-changing ticket.
