Cloudsgate Citadel is the name of the bonus dungeon that appears in the 16-bit remake and ports of Dragon Quest III. It is a homage to the original flying castle of the Dragon Quest VI, which was the most recent title in the series when the SFC remake of III was released in 1996.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The citadel is smaller than in past games, but no players need not go through a lengthy dungeon to reach it: simply entering the pillar of light in the Faerie Palace will teleport the Scions of Erdrick to King Zenith's domain.

This tombola is only available after wishing for it, and awards the best equipment in the game.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
The citadel is reached by stepping into the light of the stained glass windows at the Castle of the Dragon Queen, although this only occurs if the player has already defeated Zoma and seen the ending, earning the "Erdrick" title on their save file on the loading screen. The player will then be taken to a mysterious floating island that houses a lengthy and dangerous dungeon
Many fierce monsters populate this dungeon, including Baramos doppelgangers known as Baramonsters. The final room of the dungeon is a Monster Arena, where the heroes fight inside the ring. Once this room is passed, the party will enter a duplicate of the Queen of Isis' throne room. A monarch calling himself King Zenith sits on the throne, who congratulates the party for making it this far and alludes to a higher power awaiting them if they choose to brave climbing the Citadel Tower above the throne room.
Treasures[edit]
A Troubadour in the throne room will ask the player three riddles, with each one rewarding the player with an incredible item:
- A town in ruins. What glitters beneath the cross?
- An enclosed town in a dark world. It sleeps among the flowers...
- The gazer of stars notices not what lies at his feet...
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]
The dungeon below the citadel remains unchanged aside from the alterations that affected the component sections, but the castle proper now has a distinc layout separate from Ibis and houses a merchant who sells rare items. A talking cat will in form the player of how many monsters remain to be rescued out in the world as a convenience for completionists, including the cureslime floating in the very same throne room.
