The gaia armour is the legendary armour found in all versions of Dragon Quest VII. Created by the Earth Spirit, the armour carries the durability of impenetrable stone and will enable the wearer to weather damage from a variety of elements. Its existence, along with the other pieces of the saint's equipment, is first alluded to in the Shrine of Mysteries by a stone puzzle piece carved in its likeness.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

The armour increases defence by +125 and style by +55, and will reduce damage taken from Frizz, Sizz, Bang, & Fire-breath attacks by 35 points. Walking while equipping the gaia armour will restore 1 HP every five steps. It can be equipped by the Hero and Sir Mervyn, and is found by taking the path of stone in the depths of the Cathedral of Blight.

The elemental damage reduction stacks with the 30% breath attack damage cutting trait of the aeras shield, making certain enemies all but helpless against the Hero

Etymology[edit]

  • The armour is named for Gaia, the embodiment of the earth in Greek mythology and mother goddess to the titans

Trivia[edit]

  • The armour's earthly theme and ability to heal the wearer while walking is coincidentally reminiscent of Antaeus, a Greek mythological character who was the son of Gaia and could recover from any wound so long as his feet touched the soil
