Earthenwarrior

From Dragon Quest Wiki

The Earthenwarrior is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It is sword-wielding knight riding atop a horse, all of which are made from clay. Its name is a play on the word earthenware.

Characteristics[edit]

Earthenwarriors are earth soldiers riding on earth horses, which seems to be a play on the Terracotta Army that were found in Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. It may also be inspired from Japanese Haniwa funerary objects, which were also constructed from terracotta clay. True to their real-life counterparts' purpose, they possess protective magic that allows them to bolster their allies' Defences.
