The Preying mantis is a monster introduced in Dragon Quest VII. It can be found in the Western Cave and under Alltrades Abbey.
Characteristics[edit]
Preying mantises are monstrously large six-legged insects with intimidatingly sharp bladed claws that they use to slice and dice their way through prey. Their bright reddish exoskeleton allows them to blend in with the backs of the deep caves they live in. Their claw slash skills serve up extra damage, making them more of a threat than they first seem, however their slow brains also force them to take their time in battle, sometimes spending turns just simply assessing the situation. Their original Japanese and localized names are a combination of "mantis" and "scorpion", although most of the monster's features belong to the Mantidae family.
