Shadeshifters are primordial beings of darkness hell bent on trapping adventurers in black voids.
Characteristics
Shadeshifters are goblin-like humanoid creatures with dull red skin, pointy ears, and wisps of purple energy for hair. Like their hot and cold counterparts, shadeshifters levitate in midair and delight in juggling the shadows that they can manipulate. They have yellow eyes with small black pupils and an iron ring around the top of their heads, giving them the appearance of a umbral brazier. The shadeshifters wear white breastplates with a skirt attached over a pair of black trunks, a white pair of boots, and purple wristbands. Unlike their brethren, these elementalists do not bother with debilitating or instant death magic, preferring an all-out offensive with Zam spells and darkness breath attacks.

Trivia
- The shadeshifter's malicious form is the least improved of all transformed monsters in XI, due to the proximity of the Fortress of Fear and the Heliodor region. This is further exemplified by the normal and malicious forms being listed closely in the bestiary
