The Immigrant Town is a town that can be created by the player in Dragon Quest III in the field at the north eastern tip of the North American continent and on the other side of mountains east of Persistence.

The development of the town is necessary to obtain the Yellow Orb.

Synopsis[edit]

An old man from Persistence arrived in a field in hopes of making a town, but needs a merchant to help. The Hero agrees to provide him with one and parts way with his companion--this leads to a permanent separation in the NES version and a temporary farewell in the remakes of the game.

The turbulent development of the immigrant town reflects the near-disaster of the Jamestown colony, the first permanent English settlement on American soil.

Stages of development[edit]

Stage One[edit]

The merchant has built a shop and runs it.

Shop[edit]

Stage Two[edit]

Triggered by defeating Orochi. Changes include:

  • The item shop has several additional items for sale and is ran by someone else.
  • The town has an inn.
  • The old man's house has an additional floor.
  • The merchant is in the middle of building a theater.

Treasure[edit]

Stage Three[edit]

Triggered by defeating the Boss troll and obtaining the Mod Rod in the kingdom of Manoza. The town has grown greatly, though some of the townspeople feel that they're being overworked, with some planning a revolution against the merchant. Changes include:

  • The town is named after the merchant.
  • The theater is completed and has dancing girls as the entertainment. Upon leaving, The Hero and their party will be charged 50,000 gold coins, only to be able to leave for free since they are friends with The Merchant.
  • The merchant became mayor and had a manor built.

Remake changes[edit]

In addition to being let out of prison, the Super Famicom and GBC version of the game maintained the merchant's unique sprite, whereas the NES version sees them taking the sprite of the usual town merchant.

Usage of the Immigrant Town in another area[edit]

  • The town's theater is used in a village during the Dancer Scenario at the beginning.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

The game will now notify the player each time the boom town upgrades, and there is goodybag disguised as a merchant going for a stroll at night. When speaking to the merchant, he or she will now reflect on when the townspeople revolted and a cutscene showing the events plays out. During the ending the town is shown to be thriving, with several citizens holding a meeting in the merchant's former mansion.
