The Cannibox (originally Man-Eater Chest) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a weaker version of the Mimic and as such is usually the first container-mimicking monster encountered by the player.

Characteristics

Canniboxes, like Mimics, are monstrous chests; the Cannibox is probably the most convincing of the chest-mimicking monsters since it is colored like a traditional chest: brown, unlike the off-color palettes of the Mimic and Pandora's Box.

Being a lesser variety of the Mimic, Canniboxes usually don't have access to instant-death moves but, rather, desperate attacks that can act as instant-death if the target's HP isn't sufficient enough to survive. An encounter with a Cannibox can usually be prevented by casting Peep on a chest to determine whether or not is a monster, though this may not help any if Canniboxes wander the area like normal monsters do.
