Decelerate is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series which was first introduced in Dragon Quest Monsters before later being brought over into the main series with Dragon Quest IX.
It decreases one enemy's Agility by one level with 50% accuracy, before spell resistance and Magical Might are applied.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
Decelerate is learned by Armamentalists at level 10. It costs 3 MP to cast, and will increase in accuracy once the caster's Magical Might reaches 50. When the value reaches 499, the spell becomes 100% accurate barring monster resistance. The affects of the spell last for 7~10 turns.
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Decelerate is learned by Thieves at level 9 and costs 2 {MP}} to cast. Instead of decreasing the target's Agility, it increases the waiting time between actions for the target.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
Decelerate is learned by Veronica at level 12, and by Sylvando at level 15. It now costs only 2 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]
Called Slow in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 3 with 16 MP and 14 Intelligence. It grows into SlowAll when the monster reaches level 7 with 32 MP and 28 Intelligence. It is learned naturally by the CatFly, Droll, FairyRat, Goategon, MadPlant and PutrePup.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]
Slow now requires 26 Intelligence to learn and 51 Intelligence to upgrade. It is naturally learned by the PillowRat.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[edit]
Decelerate can be learned by applying 6 skill points to either the Saboteur or Trickster skill tree.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit]
Decelerate can still be learned from Saboteur and Trickster. It can also be learned from Flute Warrior for 20 points or from Speedster for 17 points.
