Avarith is a boss in the second act of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Her greed has brought unhappiness to the citizens of Phnom Nonh, and she must be defeated in her lair before Sylvando will rejoin the party.

Characteristics

Avarith is obsessed with hoarding untold worldly possessions, using any means necessary to obtain whatever catches her covetous eye. Though satisfying her own obsessions is one reason she hoards, the real joy her collection brings is the suffering it brings to those she has robbed. Avarith is a devout follower of Mordegon, but she is not powerful enough to be admitted as one of the Spectral Sentinels--nevertheless, she has brought ruin to the people of Phnom Nonh by the time of the game's second act.

In-game description

Though she invests an awful lot of effort into pinching others' possessions, it's not for want of the stuff itself-the real prize is the suffering of those she steals from.

Etymology

  • Avarith is derived from avarice, which is a synonym for greed. It is probably also a reference to her lisp, which would cause her to pronounce "avarice" like "avarith."
