First appearance | Dragon Quest XI |
The Brollygarch is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest XI. It is a powerful variant of the Brollyminator that only appears during rainy weather.
Characteristics
Brollygarches are peculiar monsters in the shape of crimson red umbrellas with diabolical faces and a three-pronged claw made of dark metal at the end of their flexible handles. Their faces have squinting crescent-shaped orange eyes with tiny pupils and a jagged toothless grin which is able to stay in the same place as the umbrella rotates itself. They are able to float in midair by spinning their bodies round and round. The brollygarches are able to send entire parties of adventurers into confusion by casting Kafuddle, then finish them off either by slicing them apart with the sharp spikes on their bodies or launching powerful gales. Like brollygaggers, they mostly make appearances in the middle of rainstorms, either by land or sea. After battle, they have a chance to drop umbrella-shaped wands which are sought after by spellcasters.

Etymology
The brollygarch's English name is a combination of the term "[[Wiktionary:brolly|brolly", which is a British English slang term for an umbrella and the word "oligarch", someone who is part of a power structure where only a small amount of people rule or a wealthy business owner who wields political power.
