The Black Buzzard is a recurring Boomerang in the Dragon Quest series. With the fire element being added to the Flametang boomerang in the ninth game, the Black Buzzard fills the gap of a non-elemental boomerang to be relied upon until the Metal wing boomerang is acquired.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King 3DS[edit]

The Black Buzzard was a part of a timed DLC distribution event for the 3DS port of the game. It increased Attack by +71, could be sold for 30,000 Gold Coins, and required a character to be at level 30 or higher to wield.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

The boomerang increases Attack by +51, deals an extra 10% damage to insects, and the user must be at level 50.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit]

Isla's Attack is increased by +70 and her Defence by +20 with the buzzard equipped. It can be bought for 18,300 Gold Coins.

Etymology[edit]

Buzzard is a collective term for any bird in the genus Buteo, and in American English is also describes members of the Cathartidae family (vultures)

  • The Japanese name for the weapon, Black Condor is also the name of a main character in Chōjin Sentai Jetman. This would not be the first time Dragon Quest referenced the super sentai series, as the Ranger's accolades in the Japanese version of VI followed the naming pattern of the show.

Trivia[edit]

The buzzard has the same shape and silhouette as the Swallowtail boomerang.
