Demonic Guard of Heaven and Earth is True Dark King Vearn's ultimate skill in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. This motionless stance allows him to use three different techniques at the same time, in order to counter up to three enemy attacks; it is equivalent to being able to "take double turns".
These Techniques are:
- Phoenix Wing: A technique that combines offense and defence. Vearn is able to deflect and parry an opponent's attack at incredible speed. Its name is derived from its resemblance to the flapping of a wing, and it corresponds to the defense "Chi" (Earth).
- Calamitous End: A simple hand chop delivered with monstrous strength surpassing that of the Staff of Edacity. Vearn can also perform a bare-handed version of Calamitous Wall via this technique. It corresponds to the offense "Ten" (Heaven)
- Kaiser Phoenix: Vearn's own version of the Kafrizz spell. Like with Calamitous End/Wall, young Vearn no longer needs the Staff of Edacity to use this move. Instead, he gathers fire in his hand before waving it, shooting a fiery bird at his foes.
This technique's greatest weakness is that Vearn must stand perfectly still to hold the required energy, making it a purely defensive ability which leaves him briefly vulnerable after use - something that doesn't happen when he uses each technique individually. Additionally, as pointed out by the heroes during the final battle, Tenchimatou is a counter-attack that uses the flow of the enemy's attack to the user's advantage, so Vearn cannot use it if he's not attacked.
In his aging body, Vearn wasn't able to do the full skill, only being able to do a Kaizer Phoenix and a physical attack.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[edit]
After recombining with his youthful body to become "The True Dark King", Vearn uses the Demonic Guard of Heaven and Earth to brutally counter Dai's Giga Strash. Just when Vearn is about to finish Dai off, Popp and the other heroes arrive to rescue him, only to be immediately sealed in Eye jewels save for Popp, Avan, Hym and Larhart. While Popp is healing Dai, the other three attack Vearn but are immediately overpowered by his stance, and Vearn also seals Avan. However, Popp manages to deduce the stance's weakness and lures Vearn to use it again by forcing the Dark King to barely deflect his Medroa. Vearn accepts and overcomes the attack, before using a combination of the stance and Kaiser Phoenix to kill Dai and Popp. It turns out Popp has counted on this and reflects the attack back with a hidden mirror, giving Dai an opening to cut off Vearn's left arm with the new technique Avan Strash Cross, before stabbing one of Vearn's three hearts and preventing him from healing his arm, depriving him of his stance.
