Nintendo is a Japanese corporation, and is the creator of the main platforms for the Dragon Quest series up to and including Dragon Quest VI. With }}Dragon Quest VII}}, Sony PlayStation became the main platform. However, Dragon Quest games continue to be released for Nintendo platforms, with }}Dragon Quest IX}} being on the Nintendo DS, Dragon Quest X being on the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and Dragon Quest XI having versions on both the 3DS and the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo of America, a subsidiary of Nintendo, was the publisher of the NES version of the first game in North America, Dragon Quest, as well as the publisher of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition outside Japan.
