From Dragon Quest Wiki

One more road block for the time being[edit]

Tried to add files for the maps of Con Cave & Colossus, but neither of them show a picture. Antiyonder (talk) 15:14, 16 October 2013 (CDT)

Ok, they apparently do show up if you don't alter them, but leaving them as being pretty big. I don't know, since Con Cave is fairly short, text wise, I edited the map in. If you think it's unpresentable as is, feel free to revert. I'll be gone for the rest of the evening. Antiyonder (talk) 17:35, 16 October 2013 (CDT)
It work. And after I've relaxed a little more, I'm going to work on adding maps to each dungeon article. That said, in case I need some pics not found on Woodus, are there any other sites we have to okay to use images from? Antiyonder (talk) 17:35, 17 October 2013 (CDT)
Ok, so I can use images from the other sites then? Antiyonder (talk) 00:51, 18 October 2013 (CDT)

Check up on location name[edit]

Is the Endor Teleportal referring to both the Shrine East of the Desert Bazaar and the Endor Shrine on the other side of the river, or just the latter? Antiyonder (talk) 04:06, 22 October 2013 (CDT)

Then would it be alright to just have an article titled Teleportal between Zamoksva/Endor or Zamoksva/Endor Teleportal? Antiyonder (talk) 14:29, 22 October 2013 (CDT)

Another possible spambot[edit]

Question[edit]

I've been talking with the site owner (http://www.realmofdarkness.net/dq/) about using his images here when appropriate, and he looks to be okay with it. But he also asked me:

"Are you able to add this site as your affiliates on the

left menu tab that appears on all pages?" Also as he I and I both noticed, Zenithia.com seems to be down. Antiyonder (talk) 14:54, 23 October 2013 (CDT)

I'm just going to post my new question here since the title of this isn't specific. Now I haven't been able to locate any maps of the town of Mamon individually. Only one I found is part of the Mamon Mine map, so I was wondering if merging MM with Mamon is okay? Antiyonder (talk) 15:16, 28 October 2013 (CDT)

So what's the policy when using something from the Dragon Quest Wikia? Just include the notice at the bottom of the page? I ask because it seems to be the only page that I found a good image of Maria: http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/Maria

If anything, would I need to get permission from the uploader of that image? Cause it looks like he was banned. Antiyonder (talk) 22:39, 6 November 2013 (CST)

Noted[edit]

Now just for further clarity, all files or multiple files of a subject? Antiyonder (talk) 13:12, 24 October 2013 (CDT)

DQVC[edit]

The page needs to be updated with the info from the main page and I would normally do this myself (I updated it on the last news update) but instead of having a PC like last time I have a 3ds which will not let me edit pages that large so mainly I here to ask/let you know about updating it with the new info and undo all the changes I made saying that this was available instead of is available. Thanks.162.72.211.120 01:54, 10 November 2013 (CST)

Dragon Quest Wiki[edit]

Hello. My name is Kingemocut, and I'm one of the new admins for the older wikia you used to be a admin on. I was wondering if, by any chance, you would like to work together as a collective, as I know a lot of pages on this wiki use content from the Wikia, and I'm sure somewhere we have some stuff from your wiki.

you don't have to do so if you don't want to, but it'd be nice to link together our pool of collective users, and make both the wiki's as complete as possible. There's a lot of pages on the wikia (over 1000) that have under 100kb, or only a little text and/or an image, so it would help us out, and i noticed that your information about Farebury Region has less than ours too, and no information about the town itself, so we could help you out too.

If you do not wish to join us again, then it's ok, but just ponder this request a little. It might just help us both out, and you never know, you might like the new newton layout. :) :P

Nadiria or...?[edit]

After my recent edit to Nadiria, I just realized the name was never used in Dragon Quest VI, but rather it was called the Dread Realm throughout the game.

That said, do you think it's close enough to merit staying on the page, or should I just create a page for Dread Realm? Antiyonder (talk) 16:42, 14 January 2014 (CST)

Have you played DQ VIII yet?[edit]

You mentioned on your profile that you were going to play Dragon Quest VIII. Have you completed the game by chance? Just asking as I wanted to ask for some advice regarding some spoiler tags, but I'll wait until you respond. Antiyonder (talk) 00:10, 16 March 2014 (CDT)

Trying to get an image to show[edit]

Yeah, I have both an image and box for the Cursed belt on the article. I tried to insert the image in that box (Tried File: and Image: too), but when I preview it, the image doesn't show. Antiyonder (talk) 03:49, 28 March 2014 (CDT)

Another imagine related problem[edit]

http://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_I_NES_Fighter%27s_ring.png

Using that page as an example, these pages show up completely blank now. I thought it was my dad's computer at first, but even my laptop has problems showing these file pages. Antiyonder (talk) 01:32, 3 April 2014 (CDT)

Apostrophes I don't think have anything to do with it. The Cursed belt pic for example didn't show up when I went to the page. Infact, yesterday I clicked on the pic for Trodain castle, and it showed, but now it's a no show. Antiyonder (talk) 21:34, 15 April 2014 (CDT)

SEIWA[edit]

Hi, I am TheFifteenthMember, an editor from the KHWiki. In our recent roundtable meeting, we agreed that SEIWA's status is practically dead and inactive so we proposed that the five members of SEIWA disband and continue on as independent sites. Former SEIWA members can then be linked to each other as affiliates. We'd like to know the Dragon Quest Wiki's thoughts on the matter; do you agree with this plan?

Apologies for dumping this on your talk page. I wasn't sure where to post. TheFifteenthMember (talk) 13:29, 12 September 2014 (CDT)

Never mind, I've found a more fitting place to discuss the matter. The talk page of the main page has had previous SEIWA discussions so there will do. TheFifteenthMember (talk) 18:23, 13 September 2014 (CDT)

New User[edit]

Hello there. I'm a very active mediawiki user who has recently had his love for DQ reignited; I would love to join the community here and help where possible. Thank you for reading; you can contact me at kaschimmel207@gmail.com or wsewolod207@mail.ru (Preferably the former).

Heads up concerning some Dragon Quest VI edits I'll be making.[edit]

I'm going to be working to alter the references to the Phantom World and Real World by as a GameFAQ poster suggestion, renaming them the Upper World and Lower World. Names are descriptive, while covering spoilers for players who have yet to defeat Murdaw. I might even rename the articles, while still making use of the official names through redirect. New NIWA Wiki[edit]

Inkipedia has been inducted into NIWA. I'll upload the favicon for you. Also, the NIWA template on the Main Page shouldn't be in the right column, it should be on the bottom because it looks a bit crammed right now. Thanks! --Starphoria (C·E) 10:23, 4 July 2015 (CDT)

Wiki design[edit]

Hi FlyingRagnar,

My name is KidProdigy, I've created an account IceKidd for whatever reasons, I've done the Nintendo 3DS page on this wiki. But anyways, I'm also quite skilled with creating templates, and creating original designs and I was wondering to do it the same for this wiki. I have high respect for your work, and ask you for permission to change the layout of the wiki as well the main page. If you disagree to that, I understand, its your wiki after all. You can see some of my work at Wikia, to have an idea what I actually mean and such.

I thank you for your time.

IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 08:33, 14 September 2015 (CDT)

Thank you for responding to my request. Well actually, I would like to revamp the entire wiki to give it more a look like a real Dragon Quest Wiki. I know that you and every contributors that are contributed to the wiki have done their best, but I would give you to chance to make me create a brand new wiki. Probably it is much asked with a task like this.
What I want to do with the main page leaving the "Join the Quest" and "Dragon Quest News" section. Many of it actually needs an administrator to create something functional, so I can give you the codes so that you can add them. I will create a seperate sandbox of the main page and I will send the link to you so that you can look at it.
The rest is just the overal wiki. I would like to change the templates as well as the entire wiki layout (all of it if you agree with it). And that's quite it. Hopefully you understand the project and I really want to make this wiki a better place for everybody.
I thank you for your time.
IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 15:23, 19 September 2015 (CDT)
I've created a first step layout for the main page which you can look here. Hope you like the it, it is not fully completed yet, but this s an idea where I am heading to. IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 15:47, 19 September 2015 (CDT)
Hi, I've designed a new Main Page for the wiki. Hopefully it will be appreciated. IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 05:52, 21 September 2015 (CDT)
That's great to hear! Thanks for liking the design. Oh, I have also something to ask you about user registration. I've discovered that you can change the questions of the captcha so there will be no spam bots registrating at the wiki, which the users can registrate an account freely. I've tested it on a wiki I used to run, I can give you the code so you can add it. It helps a lot, even if you would like to see more registrated users than unregistered users contributing to your wiki. IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 15:52, 21 September 2015 (CDT)

Re: User Registrations[edit]

Sure! I will send you the code on a friday, because I am quite very busy on the moment as well. IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 02:15, 24 September 2015 (CDT)

Hi, I've send you the code last friday and was wondering if you've received my mail. Regards. IceKidd (Local UserpageLocal Talk) 02:10, 28 September 2015 (CDT)

CSS edit requests (mobile friendly navboxes)[edit]

Hi, I'm pretty sure I've worked the bugs out of the mobile friendly navbox at Template:Nav/draft, but it needs some changes to site CSS to display properly. My user stylesheets are merged copies so can replace the site stylesheets. In Vector (desktop) skin, the new navbox will appear identical, except there is a line break when a new list starts, and bullets at a line break are hidden. In Minerva (mobile) skin, the two-column table will render as a single-column stack, to free up space from the left column and prevent overflow on the right. Also, in mobile.css, I rolled everything up as an @import of common.css to save some work for you in the future. Rigel Kent (talk) 03:23, 1 December 2015 (CST)

CSS and JS edits[edit]

Sorry to drop another request so soon, but I made some goofs on mobile skin, and came up with some new tricks.

  • Reverted @including common.css into mobile.css. Pain in the butt, I know, but I found out @include doesn't minify, so greatly increased the size of stylesheets being served.
  • Tweaked createJQueryTabs() to create links inside tabs. The template can only create links from text. Doing it in the script allows for image tabs.
  • Added a .dragscroll class and script for e.g. large images, a .plain-list class for lists without bullet points, and a .pixels class for pixel images to keep them sharp when scaled, zoomed, pixel-split (many mobile displays), etc.
  • Added pixel scaling to Vector skin header background.
  • Found out mobile skin does .navbox {display:hidden !important} for some reason. Added an override.
  • Fixed tabber script in mobile skin, I hope.

Rigel Kent (talk) 05:48, 11 December 2015 (CST)

Reader interactivity[edit]

Do you have any thoughts on how our readers can ask for specific content? I've brought up the idea of a request feature of sorts to Zenithian and the major contributors, but I want as much input as I can get on the matter. Place yourself in a reader's shoes and brainstorm for a bit on ways you'd like to interact with the site--how would you want your request to get editor's attention, how such a system should be regulated, things like that. Chugging along with my monster data is fine, but I feel I could be doing more to address what people really want to know about the series. (Follower of Light (talk) 11:40, 23 December 2016 (CST))

Image problem?[edit]

I have not been uploading anything anymore, since when I try to upload a new image, I am automatically signed out. I can't figure out how to remain signed in, either. Also, my "Dragon Quest News" feed does not show up on the main page. Okay, apparently I CAN upload images, so long as the images are brand-new, not uploading over a pre-existing image (which, strangely enough, I've always been able to do until now). If I load up a page with an existing image, I am automatically signed out and am of course not given permission to upload anything. Weird, huh?

User:Follower of Light thought maybe I recently installed a script blocking add on or something to my browser and forgot to allow certain scripts. Follower of Light then also tried uploading a brand new image and was promptly booted out. When Follower of Light tried to log back in he was told he was already signed in, and that he was not accepting cookies from the site. The newsfeed is also down for him. Are you aware of this problem? - icysugarspike (talk) 13:25, 4 February 2017 (CST)
I don't think so. The news feed still doesn't show, however. Perhaps, you could contact the others about this rewrite rule you've implemented. Thanks for the quick response (only joking). - icy 05:50, 16 March 2017 (CDT)
I hate to intrude like this, but the site is currently lacking security certificates of any kind. I don't remember if it had any before, but Firefox is currently prompting me on login about it (saying passwords won't be encrypted, etc.)
Also, I'm getting some delay on re-uploaded images to appear as changed, and if I go to their URLs directly the login issue persists. Not major issues, but still worth noting. Thanks so much for what you're doing! I don't know how much help I can be, but I'm more than happy to help in any way I can, just let me know! :) TheCodingGamer (talk) 15:02, 16 March 2017 (CDT)
Got the news feed! - icysugarspike (talk) 07:15, 21 March 2017 (CDT)
Got the page running but, as you noted, with no images. Keep me posted where you're going with this wiki. It's pretty important to me. Thanks! - icysugarspike (talk) 07:24, 23 March 2017 (CDT)

Sorry to bother you again, but I've found another small annoyance: the Random Page link. It seems to get stuck and no matter how many times I click it, it will always take me to the same article. For example I clicked it 10 times and it always took me to Dragon Quest Swords Chapter 1. When not logged in it will do so until I close all DQ Wiki tabs (and gets stuck again on my next visit), and when I am logged in it doesn't make a difference if I close tabs. Hope this helps! :) TheCodingGamer (talk) 15:06, 28 March 2017 (CDT)

SEIWA-wide Notice[edit]

Hi, there, KeybladeSpyMaster here from the Square Enix Wiki and Kingdom Hearts Wiki. We're issuing a SEIWA-wide notice for a particular form of vandal attack from a particular user. This user, who initially attacked the Kingdom Hearts Wiki last month with "Kingdom Hearts is communist"-styled vandal attacks, has now engaged in the same behavior on the Square Enix Wiki yesterday. It's expected that the user will continue to engage in similar attacks on both wikis, and may attempt similar attacks on Kingdom Hearts-related pages on this wiki. The various user accounts and IPs used have been identified as related to a user blocked in June from the KHWiki. We just want to let you know that this is going on so you can keep an eye out for this on your wiki. Something our site dev did on the KHWiki is install the Moderation extension, which submits all edits from new users and all IPs to review by those with the moderation right, so maybe that may help with the spam and vandalism you seemed to have dealt with last month, too. Anyways, if you have any questions, be sure to let us know. Thanks! KeybladeSpyMaster (talk) 20:50, 10 August 2017 (CDT)

Migration[edit]

Hey, hello !

Dunno if you saw my messages on the talkpage of the site move announcement. Well, anyway I'm Tigali, and I'm the head of the french DraQue Wiki. It is hosted on Wikia and has few users and 'round a thousand pages, but I'd want to host it somewhere else. Anyway, you were talking of moving a database dump from a place to another, so I just thought that I'd like to hear some advice from you if you're convenient. I'm just a little sixteen years old with no particular ability in coding, but I'm very very fond of DraQue and I'd really like to meet people here.

(I also have a database dump from another wiki shut down by wikia and that I'd like to restore to another place if possible, but that's a bit less important to me.)

Anyway, it's a great place around here. See ya 'round I hope !

--86.235.38.140 12:34, 9 September 2017 (CDT)

Hi there. I did see your post on the migration page. Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.
If you are looking to create a new independent site using MediaWiki, a database dump of an existing wiki is definitely the way to go. It looks like Wikia still provides this on the Special:Statistics page of their wikis. You also mentioned that you already have an export from somewhere else. MediaWiki actually has some really good documentation for moving a wiki and restoring a wiki from a backup. I would encourage you to read up about MediaWiki and how everything works behind the scenes.
Once you have the export, you need to have web hosting somewhere that you are able to setup a MySQL database. Importing the database is typically pretty easy after that, and then you just need to install MediaWiki files and point them at the database. Again, MediaWiki documentation on their support wiki covers pretty much all of these topics.
I used to be much more involved in editing here at the wiki, but in the past 7-8 years life has taken me in other directions. At this point I just try to keep things running smoothly so others can enjoy and update the wiki. Best of luck with your wiki projects! --FlyingRagnar (talk) 23:49, 9 September 2017 (CDT)
Hey, sir! Naah, I understand perfectly the delay, your user page describing yourself as rarely active, I knew what to expect. Moreover, I wasn't expecting an answer so quickly, so don't you apologize.
Thank you for the documentation, some mates and I are gonna study this. We were thinking about shoutwiki for the dump we already have, and/or as a temporary solution because this platform let its users go whenever they like. Indeed, there has been talks on Wikia about a possible replacing of MediaWiki by Wikia's own software on some points. Now, perhaps I'm a little paranoiac but that would be the first step to the end of migrations: Wikia dumps would be probably no longer compatible with anything using MediaWiki's core structure, am I right? (I think that preventing migrations is their point, actually.) Adding the fact that it takes the platform one more step away from what a wiki is and should always be, and you'd easily understand why this question of independant hosting has gotten a bit more urgent.
I'm also trying at the moment to communicate with a Spanish guy who also managed to leave Wikia and self-hosting his wiki, WikiDex (about Pokémon), recently.
Well, thanks for your time, sir, and also a good luck with your site move!
Goodbye! Tigali --86.235.38.140 06:01, 10 September 2017 (CDT)

Can't validate email[edit]

Hey, I just signed up, and I never got an email code. Can you help? --Dqblongplay (talk) 00:34, 11 April 2018 (EDT)

Hey! Remember me?[edit]

Of course you do, that was two sections above :D

This is Tigali again... recently, a guardian angel (lol) has appeared under the shape of an administrator of Poképédia (the french Bulbapedia) who helped me through setting the wiki online. So here it is! Still needs a few more settings to be adjusted, but it seemed to me that this could be the right time to start discussing about interwiki links. Would you agree on sharing inter-languages links between our articles? The french wiki's got 1,191 articles at the moment, so I'd understand if you'd need more to be created, as I would understant a no (but pls say yes).

(I'm sorry if I sound childish, the whole project is a dream that came true and makes me so happy I have issues writing formally. I don't mean to embarass you in any way.)
Tigali --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:4D1:3575:89D8:D58E 08:04, 7 June 2018 (EDT)

I know you are rarely active, it'd be fine if you redirect me to someone I could talk to about this, or others means of communication more convenient to you... :( --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:DCEF:C158:A144:5DB5 06:03, 21 June 2018 (EDT)
One thing we could do is contact a mediawiki developer to see how inter-linking could be implemented. I asked them for advice on an unrelated topic earlier this year and the replies were prompt and helpful, so this shouldn't be too big of a request for them at all. There's also a general forum for posting questions to the larger community as well.(Follower of Light (talk) 14:37, 21 June 2018 (EDT))
I do have technical help and plan to seek more, I was just looking for a way to go towards a agreement on the idea. --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:DCEF:C158:A144:5DB5 16:59, 21 June 2018 (EDT)
Hi. I have no problem with setting up interwiki linking...if we can figure out how to actually do it. From what I have briefly read, setting up interwiki linking is fairly easy, but setting up inter-language linking seems complicated. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 23:22, 21 June 2018 (EDT)
Isn't this something you can ask the peeps at NIWA about since they have at least four interwiki projects. --Raltseye (talk) 15:40, 22 June 2018 (EDT)
Actually, we've made some research and it is something we either can achieve with difficulty via SQL requests, or easily with an extension. I won't go any further, I'm less litterate regarding this than my partner. --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:B902:B5A6:95D0:B123 18:41, 22 June 2018 (EDT)
So, actually, we've used the extension here and I followed the procedure. As you can see there in the sidebar, it works. If you'd want to do the same here, I'd be happy helping you adding some interlanguage links to the page. --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:A9AA:4DFB:5FE1:4EBF 11:44, 23 June 2018 (EDT)
I can't believe you didn't want to manually edit the Interwiki table. That sounds like so much fun.  ;) I installed the extension and we are up and running. Using "fr" will add the interwiki links to the sidebar. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 22:45, 29 June 2018 (EDT)
Great! I shall now officialize this in my wiki key dates list. I will gradually add the proper interwiki links to the pages I contribute to. Am I authorized to do so with your Main Page? I already did it to mine.
Well, anyway, thanks :D --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:DC1B:C77B:AC76:FF57 08:29, 30 June 2018 (EDT)
Yes, you are welcome to add them wherever. I noticed I had an old comment from a couple years ago about a German DQ wiki, but looks like the site is no longer there. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 21:52, 30 June 2018 (EDT)
That's a shame... I hope more wikis will get independent and join our family later. Thanks for everything! --2A01:CB10:8550:FC00:A406:1C64:B773:401A 07:22, 1 July 2018 (EDT)

Vandal[edit]

I'd say user Example is a vandal. What do you make of it? --Raltseye (talk) 20:57, 21 July 2018 (EDT)

Yep, there tends to be some vandalism every couple of weeks. I've deleted this pages and banned Example.
