Prestidigitators are [[Humanoid family|humanoid monsters]] that can cast simple spells, likely being the first enemy that [[Hero (Dragon Quest)|the Hero]] encounters that can do so. They wear long grey robes that cover their entire body, showing only their hands and their eyes from underneath their cloaks. According to its Monsterpedia description in ''Monsters 2'', the prestidigitators always hide themselves in their black robes as they have lost their human forms in pursuit of magic. In some illustrations and spinoff appearances, prestidigitators carry tall wands topped with red crystal orbs. Although they appeared in the series debut, these cloaked mages have yet to reappear in any of the main series, as their role as basic spellcasters has been taken over by other monsters.

The Prestidigitator is a recurring monster in the series, first appearing in the original game. It is a cloaked monster spellcaster.

Characteristics[edit]

Prestidigitators are humanoid monsters that can cast simple spells, likely being the first enemy that the Hero encounters that can do so. They wear long grey robes that cover their entire body, showing only their hands and their eyes from underneath their cloaks. According to its Monsterpedia description in Monsters 2, the prestidigitators always hide themselves in their black robes as they have lost their human forms in pursuit of magic. In some illustrations and spinoff appearances, prestidigitators carry tall wands topped with red crystal orbs. Although they appeared in the series debut, these cloaked mages have yet to reappear in any of the main series, as their role as basic spellcasters has been taken over by other monsters.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Prestidigitator appears as a D-rank monster of the Demon family during the first part of the limited True Dragon Quest I event. It can be recruited from the Craggy Cave stage of Adventure in the DQ I World: Majellan and can be fully awakened by repeating the stage at any difficulty. The prestidigitator can participate in the Death scorpion's Battle Road as a party member.
