The Pteranodon is a dragon type monster based on the Rhamphorhynchus genus of pterosaurs from the late Jurassic era.

Trivia

In an especially close bit of scientific accuracy, Akira Toriyama added teeth to the Pteranodon's beak. These were exclusive to the Rhamphorhynchus genus, and not present in other Pteranodons.
