The lucky bag's red coloration and star emblems give the monster an Eastern Asian theme, distinct from the European influenced designs found throughout the series. As the Monsters: Joker spin offs are known for adding more Asian touches to the series, this is not unprecedented. In Super Light and Walk, the lucky bag even has a slightly different design, having a Japanese lucky hammer, a small red and white tied rope, bells, and a fortune slip of paper with the kanji for excellent luck (大吉) written on it hovering around it instead.

The Lucky bag is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that was introduced in Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D. It is a variation of the Goodybag with a orange-red hue and different treasures hovering around it.

Characteristics

The lucky bag's red coloration and star emblems give the monster an Eastern Asian theme, distinct from the European influenced designs found throughout the series. As the Joker spin offs are known for adding more Asian touches to the series, this is not unprecedented. In Super Light and Walk, the lucky bag even has a slightly different design, having a Japanese lucky hammer, a small red and white tied rope, bells, and a fortune slip of paper with the kanji for excellent luck (大吉) written on it hovering around it instead.

Etymology

The lucky bag is based on the Japanese New Year's custom of fukubukuro (ふくぶくろ) in which merchants make small grab bags filled with random goods and sell them at a substantial discount. This is usually done at the beginning of the new year in order to attract new customers to shop at their store.
