- The fan is named after and features the Black Tortoise, one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. In Chinese, it is known as Xuanwu and in Japan, it is known as Genbu. It is often depicted as a tortoise intertwined with a snake. It represents the north and the season of winter.
