The crone is a monster that first appeared in Dragon Quest III. It is a humanoid monster with the appearance of a wizened old witch riding a flying broom, capable of casting a variety of spells in battle. They have yet to make a reappearance in any main series games.

Characteristics

Crones are old women with sallow skin, long unkempt grey hair, and have lost most of their teeth. They wear olive-colored robes and pointy hats and fly on a besom with a red handle and brown twigs, giving them the appearance of a stereotypical witch or hag seen in fairy tales. They attack by smacking enemies with their brooms like a club.

Crone ranger

Crone rangers have a sickly shade of purple skin, wear dark orange robes and hats, and ride on green-handled besoms. Their usage of the Blasto spell makes them more of a nuisance compared to their olive-garbed sisters.
