Rockbomb shard
The rockbomb shard is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. They are pieces of the infamous rockbombs that are left behind when the boulders are bested in battle or when they self-destruct by casting Kamikazee. The shards retain a little bit of that explosive energy and replicate the Boom spell when used in battle.

Rockbomb shards can be purchased from item shops in the Fortuna TNT board, and other shops at later points in the game for 450 gold apiece. When used, they function identically to the Boom spell and deal 52~68 damage to all enemies.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed KingEdit
Rockbomb shards can be purchased from item shops at Arcadia and Tryan Gully for 450 gold apiece. Naturally, they can also be dropped by Rockbombs and Bomboulders after battle. When used, they pulverize all foes for 48~96 damage. In the 3DS version, 2 rockbomb shards can be combined in the Alchemy Pot with a wizard's staff to create a magma staff.

Rockbomb shards are a little weaker in this game, dealing only 20~30 Blast/Lightning-element damage to all enemies. Aside from collecting the stones on the Khaalag Coast, they are also the reward for repeatedly completing Quest #55: "Mummy's Little Hero".

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive AgeEdit
Rockbomb shards deal 68~76 Light-element damage to all foes, and are found in the Heliodor Region and Mount Pang Lai after the first act. The shards are also used to forge combusticlaws and inferno blades.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2Edit
Rockbomb shards work a little differently in this adventure, wherein they now attempt to lower one foe's HP to 1 via the same instant death tag as Whack. The amount of damage scales to the monster's resistance to instant death, with the target being reduced to half health if it has a 50% resistance for example. Though they cannot be used in competitive bouts and boss monsters are naturally immune to Whack, these veritable grenades are incredibly handy for scouting monsters.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark PrinceEdit
Rockbomb shards work the same as they did in the second Joker game, and remain ever useful for scouting stubborn monsters.
Dragon Quest BuildersEdit
Rockbomb shards are a type of raw material that are used to craft wrecking balls and fire blades.
Dragon Quest Builders 2Edit
The shards are used in the same way as before, and are also one of the materials for the rusty wrecking balls.
Dragon Quest TreasuresEdit
A replica shard appears as treasure No. 294 in the Items category, with a base value of 80,000.
