The Siren is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that was introduced in Dragon Quest VIII.

They are dangerous female monsters that are encountered at sea.

CharacteristicsEdit

Sirens are humanoid monsters with the appearance of beautiful women, much like their mythological namesake. They have light skin, long blonde hair, and pointed ears, as well as sharp fangs. Sirens wear gold chokers, green bracelets, and orange strapless, floor-length gowns with green and white diamond patterns on the bodice and ending in a star-shaped skirt. Sirens have six white wands tipped with crystals of different colors floating around them and a blue eye-shaped orb that floats above their head, which they use to attack.

They use their voluptuous bodies to charm unsuspecting sailors and have a tendency to increase their Tension to dangerous amounts.

EtymologyEdit

In Greek mythology, sirens were dangerous creatures that appear like beautiful women. They could lure nearby sailors with the sound of their enchanting voice to shipwreck. During the time of the ancient Greeks, sirens were mostly depicted as large birds with the heads of women and occasionally played musical instruments such as harps or lyres. However, during medieval times, the image of a siren as having some fish-like features like a mermaid became popularized.

In fact, in many Romance languages such as Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, the word sirena is used to refer to both mermaids and sirens.
