Gyldygga (キラゴルド, Kiragorudo) is a boss and villain in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. She is one of Mordegon's Spectral Sentinels and the monstrous alter ego of Mia, Erik's younger sister. After the fall of Yggdrasil, she terrorizes the city of Sniflheim with her ability to turn people into gold with the Yellow Orb. She has gone on to appear in spinoff games in the series as both a boss and a recruitable monster.

Characteristics

Gyldygga is a large monster with both lupine and draconic features covered entirely in golden armor. She has solid glowing green eyes, a large pair of curved horns on her back, and sharp claws which she uses to tear into her opponents. Her armor is decorated with filigree designs and are covered in numerous sharp spikes. At the end of her long tail, she holds the Yellow Orb, which she uses to turn her helpless victims into solid gold statues. She is the only female member of the Spectral Sentinels.

Trivia

  • If Gyldygga's name is spoken phonetically, it sounds similar to the phrase "gold digger", a derogatory term for someone, often a woman, who uses people for financial gain.
  • Gyldygga can represent greed, or avaritia, one of the seven deadly sins. Greed is defined as a selfish or excessive desire for material possessions, such as wealth.
