Merle was originally unplayable and relegated to making a cameo running a shop where players could obtain characters and upgrade orbs for older events. However, due to fandemand, she was made into a playable character after the game's first anniversary.
To fit the vocations available in the game, Merle was made into a priest -meaning she can use wands and offensive spells-.
