Gobstopper is a recurring ability in the Monsters spin-off games. When used, it prevents enemies from using Breath-based attacks.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Making its debut as one of Torneko Taloon's random actions, it can cause a monster's spell to be misfired.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

While the skill itself does not appear, a similar skill called Kuchifuji Dance is learned by recruited Goodybags after investing 25 skill points into their Diamond of Woe skill tree.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Gobstopper is used by Crack-billed platypunks just like in the Torneko Mystery Dungeon games and prevents characters from casting spells, working like a skill-version of Fizzle. This is likely due to Hot Lick being the only breath attack the player has access to. This is an interesting departure from the series' tradition, as spells were previously depicted as not being dependent on vocalized chants to manifest.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Gobstopper (known as MouthShut in this game) shuts one foe's mouth shut for 4~6 turns, and costs 6 MP to use. It requires the monster to be at least level 17 with 120 HP, 100 Strength, and 140 Agility to learn. The Platypunk, SpotKing, Spooky, and Toadstool naturally learn the skill.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

The requirement to learn MouthShut are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the ArrowDog, Pyuro and RayGigas.

Mystery Dungeon (series)[edit]

Reappearing in Torneko: The Last Hope and Torneko's Great Adventure 3, it is used by Crack-billed platypunks to prohibit Torneko's options that involve his mouth, such as reading and drinking.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[edit]

Gobstopper can be learned from various skill trees.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit]

Gobstopper can be learned from all the skills it could be previously, though Seal now requires 69 points. It can also be learned from Orochi for 10 points.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Gobstopper costs 6 MP and will shut breath attacks down for 4~7 turns. It is learned through the Breath Taker, Hater, Prankster, Protector, Soothesayer, Stinker, and Vexologist talents.
