Kafrizzle (メラガイアー Meragaia in Dragon Quest IX; メラゾーマ Merazoma in other Dragon Quest games where it was first localized as Blazemost) is a recurring offensive spell in the Dragon Quest series. Kafrizzle is the most powerful spell of Frizz family, cremating a single enemy to deliver maximum fire damage.

The enemy version of the spell now deals 120~140 damage, making it particularly dangerous when encountering groups of casters.

Dragon Quest VII[edit]

Only Armamentalists and WoePriests learn this spell (vocation ranks 7 and 8, respectively).

Dragon Quest VIII[edit]

Jessica learns this spell at level 35. The spell will deal 145~160 base damage, and once Her wisdom surpasses 480, the spell will deal up to 240~260 damage.

  • In the 3DS port, the base range of the spells was increased to 153~167. This gives it a maximum range of 297~311, and necessitates a wisdom stat of 580 to get that high.

The enemy version of the spell deals 96~112 damage.

Dragon Quest IX[edit]

Learned by Magi Level 64. Cremates a single enemy with an enormous fireball for 45 MP, dealing 292~315 base damage. Once the caster's magical might reaches 480, the spell will begin to reach it's cap of 577~623.

The enemy version of the spell is calculated as 7 * level * (0.95~1.05), with a minimum range of 266-294 and a limit of 658-727.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Magicians learn Kafrizzle after investing 150 points into their Spellcraft. It costs 18 MP and has a casting time of 65 seconds, with damage being calculated as Magical Might x 0.76 +67.5, with the current damage range unknown.

Dragon Quest XI[edit]

Veronica will learn to cast Kafrizzle upon mastering her Spellcraft skill tree. It costs an obscene 52 MP but hits for an immense 366~398 damage before reaching a maximum of 748~780.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 1, 2, & 3[edit]

Kafrizzle is an expensive spell at 30 MP, but hits hard for 284~300 base damage. Once the monster's wisdom trumps 504, it will grow in power until it reaches 441~457 at 999 wisdom. It is learned via the following skill sets: Frizz & Bang 3, Frizz & Woosh 3, Frizz & Zap 3, Frizz & Zam 3, Fire 3, Uber Dark Dynamiter, Uber Mage, Frizz & Sizz 3, Leonyx.

Localization Differences[edit]

In Dragon Quest IX, Kafrizzle (メラガイアー Meragaiā) is a new spell; however, despite the fact that Merazoma had been localized as Kafrizzle in Dragon Quest VIII and the DS remakes, to keep with the new spell naming structure Merazoma became Kafrizz. Kafrizzle therefore remains the most powerful of the Frizz family of spells.
