The Metal heavy is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VII.

It is a sword-wielding monster clad in a suit of heavy steel armour.

Characteristics[edit]

Massive metallic dual sword-wielding monstrous living suits of bronze-coloured armour, with a frightening demonic face that grins devilishly from inside the beast's stomach. They are able to unleash devastating Desperate attacks with their dual blades and can nullify the beneficial effects of their opponents with Disruptive Wave. Their demonic magic powers allow them to Buff their allies and their disgusting mouths can belch out great swathes of fire to fry foes with. Their armour grants them a wide range of resistance to both offensive magic and negative status effects.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

The metal heavy appears as a D-rank monster of the Material family.

Etymology[edit]

The Japanese name for this card, Kōtetsumajin, means "Steel Demon", giving rise to the old English name of the monster. However, majin sounds very similar to mashin, the Japanese transliteration of the English word "machine", and the term is often used with mechanical monsters in Dragon Quest like the [Überkilling machine] as a reference to its similar use in the Super Robot series Mazinger. As such, it is likely also a pun on "Steel Machine".
