Flame Breath is a breath skill in the Dragon Quest series.

It exhales a fierce fire on all enemies for 30~40 damage, unless noted otherwise below.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

In remake versions of the game, Flame Breath can be used by the Dragonlord in his Dragon form. It deals 16~23 damage to the Hero, reduced down to 12~17 damage if he is wearing Erdrick's Armour.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

Flame Breath appears as an enemy-only skill in remake versions of the game. It can be used by archdemons, Belial, dancing flames, green dragons, and Hargon and deals 34~46 damage to the entire party.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Flame Breath appears once again as an enemy-only skill in remake versions of the game and it inflicts 30~40 fire damage to the entire party. It can be used by chimaeras, darth voodoos, Green dragons, ethereal serpents, hydras, King hydra, leger-de-men, magmalices, Orochi, and wyrtoises.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Flame Breath is used by hellspawns.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

Flame Breath is learned by many monster companions such as the Flamethrower. It costs no MP to use and will deal the usual 30~40 damage in the SFC version and 40~60 in the remakes. Many monsters are able to use the breath, as well, including black dragons, firebirds, flamethrowers, hybirds, hyperpyrexion, strongylokrotaphuses, Chimaera Pawn, the Faux dowager, the Magmen, and Ladja in the first battle against him.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Flame Breath is already known by Lizzie upon joining the party. Other characters can obtain this technique by advancing to rank 3 of the Dragon vocation or rank 6 of the Monster Master vocation.

It is used by the enemies scorching man, axesaurus, tyrantosaurus, First Test, Jamirus, gasbagon, noble gasbagon, sea fortress, and Murdaw.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Flame Breath can be learned by reaching rank 5 (6 in the PS1 version) of the Monster Masher vocation, rank 8 of the Chimaera monster vocation, rank 3 of the Rashaverak monster vocation, and rank 6 of the Drake slime monster vocation.

On the enemy side, it can be used by abyss divers, blazing wingwyrms, blistering bloaters, cosmic chimaera, dragon slimes, dragsters, elepuses, frizzards, frylings, gold frylings, hell hogs, hexicons, hocus chimaeras, metal dragon slimes, metal heavies, moosifers, mossferatu, orgons, rashaveraks, sizzards, small fry, Stripes, terrorhawks, wide-load weighverns, and wingwyrms.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Munchie will spew flaming breath after eating a piece of Spicy cheese. On the enemy side, it can be used by abyss divers, dancing flames, dragonthorns, hocus chimaeras, jargons, puppet masters, spitniks, and Khalamari.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

Flame Breath appears as an enemy-only skill again, but its damage has been reduced to 23~32. It can be used by various monsters, such as hell niños, hocus chimaeras, and prism peacocks.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Flame Breath can be used by various monsters including Chimaeras and Gremlins, inflicting around 28~35 fire damage to any characters in front of them. It can also be learned by chimaera, hacksaurus, and small fry monster companions.

  • During the game's "Decisive Battle at the Dragonlord's Castle" Dragon Quest I event, the Dragonlord's True Form can use Flame Breath, with his version dealing around 80 damage.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Flame Breath returns as an enemy-only skill that can be used by various monsters such as dragurns, drake slimes, face invaders, flamethrowers, green dragons, ham shamwitches, jargons, vicious chimaeras, vicious sham hatwitches, and war gryphons. It inflicts around 35 fire damage to the entire party.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Called BlazeAir in this game, it is an upgraded form of FireAir. FireAir will grow into BlazeAir when the monster reaches level 10 with at least 70 HP. BlazeAir will grow into Scorching when the monster reaches level 20 with 140 HP.

The requirements to learn and upgrade BlazeAir are unchanged.

Flame Breath costs 6 MP and deals 31~43 damage to all enemies. It is learned through the Blazer, Charge Leader, Deep Breather, Dragonheart, Firebrand, Fire Chief, Frizz Virtuoso, Hottie, Pyrotechnician, Respirator, Shallow Breather, Smart Blazer, Storm Chaser, and Vaudevillain talents.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Known as Searing Breath in this game, it is known naturally by Hybird at level 1 and can be learned by Flamethrower and Grillerpillar at level 18, Jargon and Salamander fry at level 20, Hacksaurus at level 22, Green dragon at level 26, and Dragurn at level 36. It costs 27 MP to use and inflicts moderate Frizz-type breath damage to any enemies in a straight line of three squares in front of the user. It can also be taught to any unit by using an ability scroll.
