Weartiger appeared as a common card in the third card pack, "Phoenix and the Ringing of the Earth".

Etymology

The weartiger's name is a pun based on the words "weretiger" and "wear". Weretigers are fictional beings analogous to werewolves—a human who is able to shapeshift or transform into a tiger by some means, such as a curse.

Trivia

  • The weartiger is physically identical to the later-appearing Caper tiger. Given that the caper tiger's original Japanese name is an approximation of "weretiger" (the original localization name of this monster), it is possible that the caper tiger was originally meant to be the original weartiger but with a new name.
  • The weartiger is likely based on the Oni, a Japanese ogre that's sometimes red-skinned and wears tiger skins as clothing.
