Aruval is a minor character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors.

Some time prior to the beginning of the game, he is transformed into a hideous monster by the power of the mostly dormant but emerging Xiphos. Losing his grip on the better part of his humanity, he runs (or, more likely, swims) far from his homeland; his sister Fleurette immediately drops everything and gives chase, but loses track of him.

Aruval is first appears in the FMV following the game's tutorial, where he is seen from behind as he slowly sinks into the ocean near Castle Avalonia.

Later on, in the third level, rumours surface about a monster from Secace Seacove; it's Aruval. The Hero of Dragon Quest Swords and his father Claymore move to investigate, Fleurette and Prince Anlace in tow. After making their way through the caves, they encounter Aruval and defeat him in battle, but Fleurette runs in front of him and causes the Hero to stay the killing blow. Nearly in tears, Fleurette reveals Aruval's identity, and everyone reflects on how dire the state of affairs has become.

With the help of the party, Aruval goes into hiding for a while to stay out of trouble. However, he accompanies them when they ascend the Deathbringer's Citadel. When Xiphos is finally defeated, all his magic goes with him and Aruval returns to his human form.

In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, an aruval is a reverse curved sword sharing characteristics of both an axe and an extended sickle, often used for slicing coconuts.
