Skull helm
The skull helm is a recurring piece of headwear in the Dragon Quest series. Although this monstrous skullcap imparts a deadly curse on its wearer, it can be purified with the use of Alchemy.
Appearances
Dragon Quest VIII
The skull helm has a defence bonus of +49... but it is cursed and reduces attack to 0! It can only be worn by Yangus, as well as Morrie in the 3DS version. It can be purified with the Saint's ashes in the Alchemy Pot to create a Sun crown or sold for 4,500 gold. However, there are only two in the entire game: one in a treasure chest on Isolated Plateau which is accessible with the Godbird's soulstone and one in the Heavenly Dais.
Dragon Quest IX
The skull helm makes a reappearance in this game and can actually be cursed again with the use of Malicite in the Krak Pot if it has been purified with saint's ashes.
