The Bird of terrordise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest VII, it is a fiery red variant of the Prism peacock.
Characteristics
Like their prism peacock birdy brethren, birds of terrordise sport powerfully built humanoid bodies and a pair of golden curved horns atop their heads, along with their indicated avian qualities, but are of a raging red-hot coloring as opposed to the prism peacocks' motley plumage. The infernal avians are among the most powerful monsters around in each of their appearances, boasting high stats and the most lethal of the fire breath attacks. The birds can also send adventurers into a state of utter chaos with Fuddle spells. Their scarlet plumage grants them a high amount of protection against fire spells and techniques. They typically make their habitats in volcanic regions, such as the Hellfire Hollow of Orgodemir's Cathedral of Blight and high-level fire grottoes in IX.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds
Bird of terrordise appeared as a boss that could be challenged in the Hall of Perdition starting on April 26th, 2022 in the Feather and Flames battle. Its special move is Trial by Fire, a powerful fire breath which it unleashes after a 10-second countdown unless it is interrupted or defeated first. A more powerful Breakbeast version was eventually added to the Hall of Perdition on October 26th, 2022.
Etymology
The bird of terrordise is a play on the bird-of-paradise, a member of the Paradisaeidae, found in Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia.
