The poison moth hnife, also known as venomous dagger or bug knife, is a recurring knife in the Dragon Quest series. Of unusual design, it can induce paralysis on strike 13% of the time.

Appearances

Dragon Quest IV

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +24. It can be wielded by Borya, Torneko Taloon, Maya & Meena. Laurel has one among his equipment.

It can be purchased for 750 gold coins, and sold for 562. Tessie will sell it at Torneko's shop for 1,125.

Dragon Quest V

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +24. It can be purchased in Stockenbarrel for 900 gold.

Dragon Quest VI

The poison moth knife may be equipped by Milly, Ashlynn, Nevan, Goowainn, and the slime buddies. It has an attack bonus of +24, and a style bonus of +13. It is dropped by Giant Moths, appropriately enough, and the paralysis effect will trigger with all slash and punch skills.

Dragon Quest VII

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +23 and a style bonus of +13. It can be equipped by Maribel and Sir Mervyn. One is given to the party after the events at Faraday in the past and another can be found at the Roamers encampment. It cannot be purchased from any shop, but they can be sold for 475 gold. Poison moth knives can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.

Dragon Quest VIII

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +29. It can only be equipped by Jessica.

Dragon Quest IX

The poison moth knife has an attack bonus of +24, and may be alchemized by combining a Divine Dagger with two helpings of Coagulant and one spot of Manky Mud. The weapon can be further refined into the Batterfly Knife by combining it with three helpings of Coagulant and three Butterfly wings.

The batterfly knife has an attack bonus of +38, and will deal an additional 20% damage to bug family monsters in addition to causing paralysis. The blade can be honed further by combining it with one Disturbin' Turban and five Butterfly wings, resulting in the Dread Dagger. The papillon poker has an attack bonus of +57, and keeps the same bonuses of its weaker forms.
