The Dark turkey is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII. It is a fearsome birdman swordfighter originating from the World of Darkness.

Characteristics[edit]

Dark turkeys are anthropomorphic birdman warriors that are the size of grown men, having both plumage and armaments in various shades of black. Despite their names, the dark turkey has the appearance of a rooster rather than that of a meleagris. They have spiked pauldrons on their left shoulders and wear a swordbelt with their scabbards hanging from their left side around their waists. The fowl swordsmen wield their longswords with both of their talons, being capable of slicing through the air fast enough to send blades of sharp wind at their opponents. They have a tendency to shout suddenly in the middle of battle to intimidate foes into inaction and have some magic at their disposal. The dark turkeys are at the beck and call of their avian master Gemon, and are summoned alongside Dark condors. After the fall of the Black Citadel, they begin to appear throughout the World of Light with slightly enhanced attributes.
