Glowering Inferno

From Dragon Quest Wiki
(Redirected from FireGiant)

The Glowering Inferno is a boss in the game Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past that the party encounters in the Burnmont.

Synopsis[edit]

The Glowering Inferno is a monster found in the depths of the Burnmont in Emberdale. A minion of the Demon King, it was tasked with collecting the ceremonial flames that the residents throw into the volcano as part of a plan to destroy the continent by causing a eruption, which the party saw in a vision when they first arrived on the island. The party encounters him and he decides to destroy them. After he is defeated, the Glowering Inferno claims that his plan will still come to fruition as a black smoke rises from the vase that he was collecting the flames. However, the party uses the Wholly holy water given to them by Pike to avert the crisis.

Strategy[edit]

The Glowering Inferno's regular attack does ~15 HP if the party is properly equipped. He can trample the party which hits everyone, causing ~10 damage to everyone. Its fire breath will cause ~10 flame damage to everyone as well. Its most devastating attack is Muster Strength where it will take a turn to charge up an attack. Its next attack will do double damage, depending on the attack it uses. The Glowering Inferno is resistant to flame attacks. So the player is advised not to use Kiefer's Flame Slash and Maribel's Frizz.

Maribel should use Sap twice to remove its defenses. The Hero should use Upper on the party. Kiefer and the Hero should attack while Maribel should be the designated healer, attacking only when the party isn't hurting for health. When the Glowering Inferno charges up, the party should parry to lessen the damage done by the next attack.

As long as the party's health is sufficient, there should be no problem defeating the Glowering Inferno.

Etymology[edit]

The Glowering Inferno's name comes from the 1974 disaster film The Towering Inferno, a movie about an electrical short that starts a fire in one of the world's tallest buildings.
