Refractor Fist is a recurring martial arts ability first introduced in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai developed by Brokeena the Holy Fist. It is a powerful technique that combines the strength of a Martial Artist with a healing spell that sends a fatal, life-draining effect at the moment of impact. It has made regular appearances in spinoff games where Maam makes an appearance in her Martial Artist form.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[edit]
As Maam was advancing rapidly in her training to become a Martial Artist, Grandmaster Brokeena, the Holy Fist, decided to teach her one of his secret techniques. He explains that, in the distant past, powerful Priests and Sages were capable of casting a healing spell known as Overheal that could destroy living creatures. Brokeena gives the example that a plant that is watered too much will eventually wither and die. Refractor Fist utilizes both martial arts and the effect of a powerful healing spell in order to overwhelm an opponent's body. Due to its terrifying effects, Brokeena only taught the technique to Maam since he knew that with her kind and just heart, she would only use it for the right reasons. Maam uses it to great effect against Zamza in his Superior Being form in order to prevent his body from regenerating. However, since it only affects living beings, Refractor Fist is useless against inorganic opponents.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds[edit]
Refractor Fist appears as a Special Move that can be used by Maam and the Luminary Leader as Martial Artists. It is a short-range attack that inflicts physical Strike damage over a small area and temporarily raises the user's Physical Attack. The main way to acquire the skill is by obtaining White Tiger Claws from limited Treasure Hunts.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
Refractor Fist can be learned by Martial Artist Maam at level 80 and costs 74 MP to use. It has a range of up to two squares away from her in any direction, inflicts 500% potency physical damage to a single enemy and nullifies their ability to heal themselves for 3 turns. Since it is a Coup de Grâce, it takes 2 turns to charge and can only be used thrice per battle. Upgrading the ability increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[edit]
Refractor Fist appears as a Limit Burst for Martial Artist Maam. It deals light-elemental physical damage to one enemy, decreases their light resistance for three turns, and increases her physical damage against beast, avian, aquatic, demon, human, dragon, insect, and plant enemies for three turns.
Trivia[edit]
- Refractor Fist would influence the creation of Great Ball of Fire, a martial arts technique used by Alena. In Japanese, its name "Senkō rekkaken" (閃光烈火拳) is an anagram of Refractor Fist's Japanese name.
