Pankraz has the looks of a well-worn traveler and could likely be passed off as a toned down barbarian given his frizzy hair, fang necklace, leather kilt, and a partial breastplate that reveals some of his upper-body musculature. His personality is far from barbaric, however; Pankraz is a righteous and strong-willed sort, often willing to lend a hand and remaining conscious of those who may expose themselves to peril. He can be stern at times with his son but is nevertheless a protective parent, always healing the Hero's HP if it ever drops even the slightest from a single battle.

Pankraz was the King once, but however, it seems like everyone did not know he was a King, and thought another Pankraz was a King. There is a scene from the start that you would see the Pankraz there. His new son, the Hero controlled by the player throughout the game, would be born then. Everyone thinks they've imagined that Pankraz was the King, but indeed he was. Later in the game, Pankraz will join your team and help you throughout. At the Kidnapping of King Harry, he will fall into fate. Pankraz will order you to leave with Harry in the Kidnapper's hideout, and then you'll approach Bishop Ladja. He will attack you, and you must lose this battle. Then Pankraz comes to rescue, but then he wins and Bishop Ladja threatens him he'll kill Madason if he doesn't lose. Then slowly, Pankraz tries to lose...And then his fate had come. Then at the end, he will tell Madason about the disapppearance of his Mother, Mada. He tells Madason that his Mother is still alive. Then Bishop Ladja casts his last spell, and he vanishes into dust and dies. Then after the Prince Harry and Madason is taken as slaves, and then the pet, Saber, is left with him. The Sabrecub will find his way out, and he'll appear back in the story to help Madason again.-->

Pankraz was formerly the king of Gotha. However, after the birth of his son, monsters kidnapped his wife Madalena. From then on, Pankraz and his son; along with Sancho, would travel the world in search of the king's wife. Pankraz's unassuming appearance; combined with the fact that he has been traveling with his son for so long has caused many people to assume him to be a commoner and not a king. Pankraz arrives in Whealbrook shortly after the game begins and soon after escorts Bianca Whitaker and her family home to Roundbeck. After arriving back in Whealbrook from the mission, Pankraz comes down with a cold brought on by the eternal winter in Faerie Lea. After his son resolves the issue there, Pankraz is summoned to Coburg. There, he witnesses the kidnapping of the young Prince Harry, and him and his son head to the Ancient Ruins. As the children try to leave, they are ambushed by members of the Order of Zugzwang. Bishop Ladja; the enemies' leader, beats the children senseless before Pankraz arrives.  Ladja then summons Kon the Knight and Slon the Rook to kill Pankraz; he defeats them both, and Ladja changes his tactics. This time, he threatens to kill the man's son if he doesn't yield. Pankraz holds firm from another round of assault until he is nearly dead. Barely clinging to life, Pankraz tells his son that his mother is still alive and that he should keep looking for her; this occurs seconds before he is killed and turned to ash by Ladja, who then proceeds to take Harry and the man's son to Mount Azimuth for the purpose of slave labour.

In the second generation, the now fully-grown Hero 5 returns to Whealbrook and finds a letter from his father. The letter explains that Pankraz has been searching for the legendary hero and his equipment, but only managed to recover the Zenithian sword. The letter ends with Pankraz compelling his son to find the legendary hero and his mother.

While only available as a party member for a short time, and in small intervals at that, Pankraz is an incredibly powerful individual at the start of the game, out-leveling essentially every monster the player first encounters. He primarily attacks, having a 25% rate of scoring critical hits, but can also use healing magic and will always heal the Hero to full health if even a smidgen of his HP is lost in a battle.  This can extend to Saber in the remakes due to being able to use Pankraz's healing spells manually out of battle.

Pankraz Gotha is a character from Dragon Quest V.

He is a somewhat rough-looking man who is the father of the Hero and the former king of Gotha.

Appearance and Personality[edit]

Pankraz has the looks of a well-worn traveler and could likely be passed off as a toned down barbarian given his frizzy hair, Fang necklace, Leather kilt, and a partial Breastplate that reveals some of his upper-body musculature. His personality is far from barbaric, however; Pankraz is a righteous and strong-willed sort, often willing to lend a hand and remaining conscious of those who may expose themselves to peril. He can be stern at times with his son but is nevertheless a protective parent, always healing the Hero's HP if it ever drops even the slightest from a single battle.

Story[edit]

Pankraz sets out with the Hero on a long journey, only Pankraz knows fully why. The only information the Hero is given is that they are looking for something that the father holds dear.

In the second generation, the now fully-grown Hero returns to Whealbrook and finds a letter from his father. The letter explains that Pankraz has been searching for the legendary hero and his equipment, but only managed to recover the Zenithian sword. The letter ends with Pankraz compelling his son to find the legendary hero and his mother.

Abilities[edit]

While only available as a party member for a short time, and in small intervals at that, Pankraz is an incredibly powerful individual at the start of the game, out-leveling essentially every monster the player first encounters. He primarily attacks, having a 25% rate of scoring Critical Hits, but can also use healing magic and will always heal the Hero to full health if even a smidgen of his HP is lost in a battle. This can extend to Saber in the remakes due to being able to use Pankraz's healing spells manually out of battle.

One of Pankraz' most notable skills, and one not given to any other party member or monster in the game, is his ability to occasionally act twice per round, as well as unlimited use of his healing spells as his MP regenerates after use of either spell.
