The Wailin' weed is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII. It is a plant monster brought to life by negative energy.
Characteristics
Wailin' weeds are walking masses of tangled plant matter that are colored dark magenta. Their main bodies seem to be made of mossy green material seen on their limbs, lips, and the tops of their heads, while their unkempt fronds give them the appearance of wearing long, flowing robes. The wailin' weeds, much like its variants, are performers of the monster world, using the crudely-carved wooden microphones in their hands to sing various songs, such as cursing their enemies into inaction or bringing fallen allies back to life, but the self-centered monsters also have a tendency to get distracted by the sound of their own voice. The foul magic coursing through their body allows them to sap tension when they strike enemies, as well. Starting with their appearances in the Joker series, the wailin' weeds became part of the Undead family due to their original Japanese names.

Dragon Quest X
Wailin' weeds begin appearing starting with Version 2.0 of the game, now being members of the Undead family. They continue to sing Cursed Verses and now have the ability to cast Zing to revive their allies, rather than using Angel Song.
