Etymology

This monster's name in the Japanese version, Grendel (misspelled in the old translation of Dragon Quest Monsters as Grendal) is most likely intended to be a reference to a villain of the same name in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf from AD 700 - 1000.
