Dragon Quest X[edit]

Wooper troopers reappear in the game from Version 7 onwards, one being first encountered by the game's Hero shortly after arriving in Zenias. They can now call for more of their kind just like their Salamarauder and Axolhotl relatives, leaping to attack enemies with their swords, and tackle enemies with Wooper Tackle.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Wooper trooper appears as an E-rank monster of the Nature family as part of the Dragon Quest IX event. It can be scouted from the Memories of the Dead stage of "Be Kind to Monsters" at any difficulty.

Trivia[edit]

  • The wooper trooper, along with the rest of its variants, are based on the axolotl, an endangered species of salamander from Mexico. The name wooper itself references the term "wooper looper" (ウーパールーパー, Ūpārūpā), a term introduced by the Nissin Foods company to refer to their axolotl mascot, which first appeared in a 1985 commercial.
  • Additionally, the adding of "trooper" to the end draws a parallel to the turtle character from Super Mario, the Koopa Troopa - which in itself was likely a nod to the Abba song "Super Trouper", as well as being a generally obvious rhyme to use.
