The Mandrake marauder is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest V. It is a dragon warrior with dark red scales wielding a golden sword and shield.
Characteristics[edit]
Mandrake marauders are bipedal anthropomorphic dragon warriors with scales of a dark red hue, wielding a golden cutlass and shield and wearing golden armor. On its back, it has a pair of large wings with dark grey membranes. It has a pair of pair purple horns on top of its head and darker purple scales starting from the top of its head to the end of its tail. The straps on its headgear, shield, and breastplate are green. It is stronger than the Mandrake major, but weaker than the Mandrake marshal. In battle, it is capable of performing violent slashing attacks with its sword and can call for more of its companions as backup. The marauders have yet to make a reappearance in the main series, but they have been a regular presence in spinoff games.
When Dragon Quest IX was first released in English, the Mandrake mangler was originally given the name Mandrake marauder as well, but it was a new and different monster in Japanese.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
Mandrake marauder appears as a B-rank monster of the Dragon family as part of the limited Dragon Quest V event. It will join the party in Chapter 4, Episode 2: The Order of Zugswang and it can be fully awakened by collecting Mandrake Marauder Crystals from Talon Tower, appearing on every 5th basement starting from B4. The lowest floors of the Tower are more difficult, but have the highest chance of dropping the crystals. Mandrake marauder can also be recruited from Part 2 of the story in Chapter 2, Episode 4: A Kindly Girl, as well as from the Log Bridge during Dragon Fest. It can participate in the battle roads of Slon the Rook, Gasbagon, and Baran as a party member.
