The smackanape is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III.
It is a powerful green-furred primate found in the jungles.
Characteristics[edit]
Smackanapes, along with their cousins, are mighty primates that have features of many real-world animals including the bulk and musculature of a gorilla, but with a long tail like a monkey. They have green coats of fur that allows them to blend in with their woodland habitats. They are able to call for help in battle, but they call upon elysium birds to heal their wounds rather than calling more of their own kind. The verdant apes would not make a reappearance in the series after their debut until Dragon Quest of the Stars, where many other classic monsters return.

Trivia[edit]
The 'napes bear a striking similarity to the Oozaru transformations from Akira Toriyama's manga Dragon Ball.
