Orph is a town in the world of Dragon Quest VII.

Past

The hero, Kiefer, and Maribel reach Orph. Inside Orph, they noticed that something was wrong about the town. All of the humans were unable to communicate. They eventually sought the help of the woodcutter, a man who lives in a house near the village of Fishbel, who has an unusual ability to talk to animals.

He eventually notices why the humans cannot speak. The people were not really human. They were animals in human form, and vice versa, the animals were actually humans in animal form. They also meet a young boy who is trapped in tough chains, whom they help escape. He wildly escapes, and left the town.

The woodcutter decided to know the story behind all of this. After talking to some of the people (technically animals), they discovered the reason. Once in the past, there was a brave white wolf that fought off the monsters that invaded her territory, but in the end she did not survive. Before she died though, she gave birth to a child. The child, or more specifically the young boy earlier who was trapped in chains, went to Mt. Ceide, the mountains of the gods, to fend off the monster who killed his mother.

They decided to go to Mt. Ceide to help the child. At the deepest part of the cave, they eventually defeated the monster, and locked it up in a coffin. Because of the death of the monsters, the town was eventually reverted back to normal, except for the wolf child. The woodcutter decided to keep the child, but Gabo, the wolf, decided to travel with the hero, Kiefer, and Maribel.

Present

Animals were now part of the history of Orph. At the time you enter the town, they are having a festival in which you could participate in. Winning their game will give you the Monster Book.

When you go to Mt. Ceide and go to the place where the monster was previously sealed, they opened up the coffin once more. The monster that was inside was still there, and decided to make up for the bad deed that he did to the wolf by turning him back to a wolf. In the end, he made a mistake and he turned Gabo more human by giving him the ability to use the human language. The monster once again apologizes for his mistake, but Gabo was satisfied with the change, and decided to stay that way.
