The Mandrake Marauder is a monster that appears in Dragon Quest V and Dragon Quest IX. In Japanese, what we call the "Mandrake Marauder" in English have two seperate names in V and IX, so the name "Mandrake Marauder" could therefore be said to describe two entirely different monsters.

The Mandrake marauder is a recurring monster in the DQSeries, first appearing in Dragon Quest V. It is a dragon warrior with dark red scales wielding a golden sword and shield.

The one in V, known in Japan as りゅうせんし ryū-senshi, has gone on to make regular appearances in spinoff games in the series. Its scales are a deep red hue, and it wears golden armor. It is stronger than the Mandrake major, but weaker than the Mandrake marshal.
Mandrake marauders are bipedal anthropomorphic dragon warriors with scales of a dark red hue, wielding a golden cutlass and shield and wearing golden armor. On its back, it has a pair of large wings with dark grey membranes. It has a pair of pair purple horns on top of its head and darker purple scales starting from the top of its head to the end of its tail. The straps on its headgear, shield, and breastplate are green. It is stronger than the Mandrake major, but weaker than the Mandrake marshal. In battle, it is capable of performing violent slashing attacks with its sword and can call for more of its companions as backup. The marauders have yet to make a reappearance in the main series, but they have been a regular presence in spinoff games.

The one in IX, known in Japan as りゅう兵士 ryū-heishi, has so far only appeared in Dragon Quest IX. It has a light, somewhat pinkish red hue and wears armor with a light greyish color. It is stronger than the Mandrake major, but weaker than the Mandrake marshal and Mandrake monarch.
When Dragon Quest IX was first released in English, the Mandrake mangler was originally given the name Mandrake marauder as well, but it was a new and different monster in Japanese.

For the pink-scaled dragon warrior from IX, see Mandrake mangler.

The Mandrake marauder is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest V. It is a dragon warrior with dark red scales wielding a golden sword and shield.

Characteristics[edit]

When Dragon Quest IX was first released in English, the Mandrake mangler was originally given the name Mandrake marauder as well, but it was a new and different monster in Japanese.
